Temple Beth Shalom (TBS) is a warm, dynamic, and inspiring Reform Jewish synagogue that is thriving at a time when so many other faith-based organizations are struggling. To help us achieve and enhance these goals, TBS seeks a highly-organized, relational, and innovative team player to manage, implement, and greatly expand our financial resource development programs to reflect our community’s growth. If you are the right candidate for this role, you will get to partner with senior leadership to design an annual giving strategy that will triple our current campaign. You will drive the ongoing building of our endowment fund and will play an active leadership role in any capital campaigns which emerge from our dynamic growth. You will oversee events related to philanthropic giving at TBS, including our spring gala and donor-related events and planning meetings. You will work strategically with our staff’s Executive Team, with the senior lay leaders who support our development efforts, and with all of those who support our community. You will report directly to one of our senior rabbis.
The position includes identifying, cultivating, soliciting, stewarding and building relationships with congregants, foundations, and organizations in support of annual, planned giving and endowment needs. Candidates should be able to establish and manage to metrics, write professionally and persuasively, use data management systems and social media to enhance TBS’ storytelling and stewardship, and work effectively with a range of constituencies. What You’ll Do:
Relationship Cultivation and Fundraising
Create and manage comprehensive strategy for each of our donor prospects
Research our prospects and current donor base
Research other funding opportunities from foundations and other potential sources of financial support
Carefully track the giving history data for donors to our community to seek out opportunities for expanded giving
Ghost write and edit personal donor communications from senior clergy and partner with senior clergy to send in a timely manner
Get to know our donor base and partner with senior clergy in mapping areas of donor interest and commitment
Schedule development-related appointments, meals, etc. between lay development leaders, senior clergy, and donors
Work with senior staff and volunteers to cultivate - and sometimes solicit - top 200 prospects
Ensure that gratitude is expressed to each of our donors via e-communications, letters, and phone calls, in partnership with synagogue finance office
Create and execute a strategy for donor giving and thank-you events throughout the year
Successfully plan for and implement these events with support from volunteer and professional partners
Generate and manage invitation lists and invitation design
Staff fundraising events and manage volunteer leaders
Supporting and Partnering with Professionals and Volunteer Leaders
As the sole staff person whose job focuses entirely on our development and fundraising efforts, you will support the Senior Clergy and Executive Team, the primary stewards of TBS philanthropic giving
Serve as staff liaison to our Community Advancement Team of dedicated volunteer leaders, work with Board officers who are focused on development, and guide the work of any groups working on philanthropic giving at TBS
Work closely with our finance office to track giving to TBS in comprehensive, clear, and cohesive ways
Maintain overall internal calendar of events for full Development team, including team meetings, task force meetings, and track internal deadlines
Update external documents and work with TBS’s Communications team to ensure updates to website, consistency of brand/marketing materials, etc.
Experience in fundraising, development and philanthropic giving preferred
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a fast-paced team
A high level of interpersonal maturity and poise; exceptional professional judgment
Superior organizational and project management skills; process-oriented, flexible and adaptable; comfort managing multiple and changing priorities, and meeting deadlines in a fast-moving and dynamic environment
A strong ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Comfort with technology - we use Google docs, MS Word, MS Excel, and Salesforce
Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking skills and a proactive approach to troubleshooting unexpected challenges
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
A strong learning orientation and a roll-up-your-sleeves, can-do attitude
Compensation and Benefits
This position carries a salary range of $55,000 - $62,500 a year, commensurate with successful experience
Professional development allowance to attend ongoing training or conferences in this field
This full-time position is eligible for participation in all of our normal benefits programs including medical benefits, medical and dependent-care savings programs, a retirement savings program, membership in the synagogue (if desired), etc.
