What the Manager, Foundation and Government Grants, does
The Manager, Foundation and Government Grants, position is key in assisting AGU to promote discovery in Earth and Space science for the benefit of humanity by being strategic and operational in focus. The primary purpose of this role is to work as part of the Development team to identify, engage and secure the investment of new and existing Foundation (Private, Corporate) partners, and the support of key government funders. The Manager works in partnership with AGU program staff, finance department and project leads to develop funding proposals that provide the resources needed to support specific funding needs and advance AGU's mission.
Manages all aspects of proposal development - including creation of timeline, proposal structure and finalization, grant reporting on occasion proposal concept(s).
Manages the budget development for annual revenue for all AGU Foundation and Government Grants.
Works in partnership with the Finance Department and VP, Development to establish a system to track and manage incoming grants and subsequent reporting.
Recommends and implements decisions related to the strategy and engagement of Foundation and Government Grant funders.
Oversees creation and approval of content for all Foundation and Government funder recognition benefits including AGU online or print media.
Provides analysis and recommendations to the VP, Development on prospective Foundation partners.
Identifies and explores new Foundation prospects and maintains existing partnerships with an emphasis on creating value-based partnerships with AGU.
Provides status updates related to Foundation and Government Grant successes to the VP, Development, and as requested to AGU Senior Leadership and the AGU Development Board.
Partners with Manager, Development Operations, to ensure stewardship of organizational partners and internal communications.
What the Manager, Foundation and Government Grants, brings to the team
Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years of related professional experience in non-profits, associations and/or for-profit organizations, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated experience in building and executing a strategic and successful Foundation grants program.
Demonstrated experience in Foundation grant writing and relationship building and maintenance.
Experience in managing budget, and demonstrated ability to work within approved budget.
Experience in a scientific, knowledge-based or technical setting is a plus, but not required.
Must be able to represent AGU’s organizational culture of honesty and transparency in operations.
Ability to meet deadlines; accomplish work in order of priority; professionally maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure and changing conditions.
Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal skills, including ability to resolve disputes and observe confidentiality.
Ability to negotiate and maintain constructive working relationships with people at all levels of an organization (both inside and outside the organization).
Demonstrated ability to translate strategic intent into a program plans and tactics.
Outstanding record of meeting deadlines and juggling multiple priorities with a high level of accuracy.
Strong attention to detail.
High degree of professionalism and accuracy.
Excellent communication skills (with a high degree of diplomacy) are essential, as is excellent follow-through on tasks.
Proficiency with Microsoft suite of products.
