The Director of Major Gifts is responsible for strategy, planning and oversight of major gifts programs and personnel which advance Tidewell Hospice’s mission through increased major gift donations. Maintains a strong focus on customer service and donor interaction, goal achievement and building relationships with friends of Tidewell Hospice.
Primary tasks, duties and responsibilities
1. Promotes and practices the Hospice mission and values and follows policies and procedures of Tidewell Hospice
Manages, supervises, coaches and holds accountable a team of major gifts officers and oversees their execution of personal goals.
Manages a personal portfolio of approx. 60 current donors and prospects and follows-up through personal visits, phone calls and written communication.
Uses donor research to strategically identify new prospects for major gifts in support of Tidewell’s program priorities.
Identifies, researches and qualifies prospective major donors; ensures each major donor and prospect has a clear strategy and timeline for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
Develops and manages relationships with local businesses and foundations with the goal of securing major gifts commitments.
Prepares case statements, solicitation and follow-up proposals, communications and other materials for prospects and donors.
Develops and implements strategies to increase the number of donors and size of gifts, increase donor retention and methodically advance donors toward the major and planned gift levels.
Works closely with Philanthropy team to ensure effective coordination of process documentation and progress tracking in RE. Provides monthly reports that accurately reflect pipeline activity and performance.
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
CFRE certification preferred.
Minimum of fifteen (15) years experience in development is required with demonstrated experience in successfully cultivating and closing major gifts for at last five of those years.
At least three years' experience supervising other major gifts officers.
Experience in building a major gifts program from the ground up.
