The Program Manager of Donor Engagement is an important partner in the management and engagement of the university’s relationship with its top donors. The chosen candidate will help to set priorities for, and independently manage, multiple short-term and long-term projects within the Office of Donor Relations and Stewardship, and for the Fearless Ideas Campaign Stewardship Plan in particular.
The Program Manager seeks to positively influence donor retention, and ensure donors’ continued interest in, and affinity for, the university. This is done by leading execution efforts on behalf of the department’s strategic plan, and day-to-day acknowledgment, recognition and stewardship functions. The Program Manager will also coordinate event logistics for the University of Maryland Philanthropy Society for consecutive, leadership annual, major and planned giving donors. This person will work collaboratively with the Offices of Leadership Annual Giving, Annual Giving and Planned Giving to implement annual plans for engagement with their respective donor circles, including a student-run video acknowledgment program for first-time donors to the institution.
This individual will manage the campus-wide acknowledgment process, draft acknowledgments on behalf of the Vice President of University Relations, and develop and oversee pledge reminder processes and procedures. They will develop customized written donor communications, and assist with planning and programming for the campus-wide Stewardship Network. The selected candidate will regularly provide reporting and analysis on donor data and independently manage maintenance for stewardship records.
The Program Manager of Donor Engagement must establish and nurture effective, collegial working relationships with university colleagues, donors, and other external constituencies. This individual will have access to, and manipulate and interpret, confidential and sensitive data pertaining to donors, alumni, and students and must demonstrate high levels of maturity, ethics, and judgment in handling this information with discretion and diplomacy.
Experience: A minimum of three years’ experience in donor relations and stewardship, event planning or communications. Experience working within non-profit organizations, higher education, or other fundraising organizations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent writing and oral communication skills A high degree of attention to detail Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment, with strong organizational and prioritization skills. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships, and work either independently or within a team. Computer literacy, including database software and Microsoft Office and Google Suites. Additionally, having an understanding of data and statistics, and being able to present them to audiences with varying competency levels. Superior customer service skills and friendly disposition
