The Director of Development and Alumni Engagement, working in collaboration with the academic community, is responsible for developing and sustaining an environment which attracts philanthropic support to further the University’s mission. The Director also leads the Alumni Engagement team and is responsible for ensuring the sound stewardship of this group of important AU stakeholders. As a member of the senior management team, the Director leads and supports the development and execution of fund development and alumni engagement strategies consistent with and in support of the University’s plans and activities, and in alignment with current ethical standards and practices. Reporting to the Vice-President, University Relations, the Director is responsible for the effective leadership, direction and management of all fund development and alumni engagement team members and functions, including major and planned gifts, annual giving, and alumni engagement, as well as advancement services, such as prospect research, records and database management, and gift processing.
Experience: This position requires a minimum ten years of related experience, including a successful track record in the solicitation and stewardship of major gifts, and in multi-million dollar campaign management.
As well, the position requires:
Knowledge of fund development practices in all areas with proven ability in some
Experience with employee development, performance management, strategic planning, budgeting and communication
Experience in change management including support of initiatives and programs, negotiations, relationship influence and innovation Experience in post-secondary education environment would be a definite asset. Education
An undergraduate degree is required
A professional designation such as Certified Fund Raising Professional (CFRE) or equivalent is preferred.
Skills and Abilities Professional: Acts as both a leader and an integral part of several teams. Possesses high ethical standards and an honest, open and consistent approach to working with peers, employees, executive members, the academy and governing bodies.
