With The Music Center On Location, the non-profit performing arts organization brings events and activities to locations outside of its Downtown Los Angeles campus. The Music Center also programs and manages Grand Park, a 12-acre adjacent greenspace, with year-round free programming.
The Music Center’s Advancement Department has an immediate opening for a Membership Officer.
The Membership Officer is a highly proactive, collaborative, and organized professional who manages the communication, fundraising activities, and stewardship for membership and recognition programs at The Music Center, with a focus on Center Dance Arts (CDA), as well as support for The Music Center’s Ambassadors and The Music Center’s Spotlight.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Annual & Leadership Giving, the Membership Officer will function as part of a team with the Annual Giving Officer, the Senior Coordinator, Events & Projects, and Advancement Coordinator. The Membership Officer implements a comprehensive solicitation and communications plan that includes support for volunteer peer-to-peer solicitations, direct mail, email, and event sponsorships, with an annual goal of $500,000. The Membership Officer manages a portfolio of 40-50 donors and prospects, and personally solicits gifts up to $10,000.
The ideal candidate will have a background in nonprofit development, preferably in dance or the performing arts generally, in addition the Membership Officer has experience with managing donor volunteers, direct mail and email appeals, and special events, as well as the ability to think strategically and build strong professional relationships.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Create, design and implement annual communications plan including appeals up to $10,000, brochures, acknowledgments, event invitations, event sponsorship recognition, e-blasts, website content and all print recognition as it relates to CDA. • Collaborative with the team to create and implement strategies to acquire new donors and develop a pipeline of increased giving for dance, education and community programming. • Manage day-to-day donor stewardship including subscription renewals, concierge ticketing, distributing parking passes, and coordinating backstage tours. • Oversee production and execution of salons in private homes, post-performance receptions, meetups, and other CDA-related fundraising events with support from the Senior Coordinator, Events & Projects, and Advancement Coordinator. • Manage 6 CDA volunteer board meetings annually, including the production of meeting materials, rosters, bylaws, meeting minutes, and other documents as needed. • Create financial and stewardship reports, in partnership with the Senior Director, Annual & Leadership Giving, to further enhance donor cultivation and predict areas of increased giving. • Manage the CDA events budget, in partnership with the Senior Director, Annual & Leadership Giving and Senior Coordinator, Events & Projects, to monitor income and expenses on a monthly basis. • Develop and maintain a personal prospect pool of donors to cultivate, solicit and steward. • Oversee maintenance of relevant donor records in Tessitura database, ensuring accuracy of mailing lists and publication listings.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelor’s degree with three or more years of experience in fundraising, preferably in cultural or related nonprofit organizations. • Proven experience working in an annual giving or membership program with volunteer management and event experience • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas. • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required. • Problem-solving, research and analytical skills. • Solid relationship-building skills, able to interface with external and internal constituents with good judgment and discretion. • Proven track record in planning and achieving short- and long-term goals. • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively about engaging donors, and to develop plans of action and follow through. • Ability to project and assess participation rates and fundraising goals. • Integrity and fiscal accountability. • Ability to work collaboratively in an energetic and changing environment. • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with donors, volunteers, and administrative personnel. • Ability and willingness to personally solicit gifts. • Willingness to work some nights and weekends. • Experience working with fundraising data management systems. • SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience; this is a non-exempt full-time position.
