The Director of Development will be joining TWT’s critical startup phase as a member of the leadership team responsible for setting and achieving the organization’s fundraising goals. This position plays a vital role in helping the organization be able to successfully carry out its mission.
The Director of Development manages all fundraising efforts with result metrics presented monthly, including major gifts from individuals, government grants, foundation grants and annual giving from all sources; research, data entry, gift processing and acknowledgments; stewardship and special events. The Director of Development will be relied upon to develop and implement strategies to diversify TWT’s funding portfolio, with a special emphasis on individual donors and corporate sponsors.

Responsibilities will include:
Creating and executing strategic and effective development plans
Communicating a compelling vision and sense of purpose to all internal and external stakeholders
Evaluating, developing and maintaining new and diverse sources of funding to support TWT’s growth
Consistently meeting and exceeding financial performance measures, goals and deadlines
Implementing office systems to support all development projects (i.e. development calendar, metrics reports and donor tracking databases)
Continuously analyzing and benchmarking effectiveness of development efforts and making improvements accordingly
Developing and stewarding relationships with individual donors through network outreach, individual engagement and strategic events
Supervising donor and gift record-keeping and coordinating development research activities
Supporting the CEO’s major gift work with top prospects and donors
Working collaboratively with the CEO, the Board, and other team members to understand and meet the organization’s priorities and leading the development of strategies designed to meet fundraising goals
Participating in annual budgeting process
Preparing all development reports for the Board and other audiences
Attending Board meetings, as needed
Other duties as deemed necessary by the CEO
Texas Water Trade will seek candidates who are steadfast and results-driven, with demonstrated fundraising abilities and an interest in water resilience.
Specific requirements include:
B.A. or B.S. degree, preferably in business, nonprofit management or another field of study with strong relevance to the position’s purpose
A minimum of 5 years’ work experience with similar not-for-profit organization in resource development including a demonstrated knowledge and success in all aspects of fund raising (capital and annual campaigns, major gifts, individual and planned giving, grants, special events, etc.)
A proven track record with fundraising and competent with all phases of donor relations (identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, etc.)
Experience building a portfolio with corporate sponsors
Managing and tracking grants; experience writing grants is a bonus
A people person who enjoys interacting with donors, entrepreneurs, scientists, government officials, and engineers in creative, disciplined, periodically ambiguous and chaotic environments
Familiarity with corporate, foundation, federal, and state funding cycles/cultures
Strong oral and written communication skills with proven record of attention to detail and deadlines
Strong core computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Access & PowerPoint
Experience with sophisticated contact management systems
Enthusiasm to work in a demanding, dynamic and entrepreneurial setting
Relates well to all people, inside and outside the organization; builds appropriate rapport; listens; builds constructive and effective relationships; uses diplomacy and tact
Preferred qualifications include:
Interest in Texas springs, rivers, bays and estuaries, the future of urban water supplies, market-based conservation and transformative technology for clean water access.
Familiarity with Texas water players and/or industry.
