The Development Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating fundraising and development activities that reflect and support the mission and priorities of NOVA. The Manager will focus on increasing revenue and expanding a base of support for the organization by means of procuring corporate and major gifts, sponsorship, and individual giving.
• Develops and implements a comprehensive acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship plan and effectively utilizes opportunities to help create a culture of philanthropy and advance fundraising. • Prepares an annual fundraising plan detailing goals, objectives, strategies, budgets, and timelines. Develops and leads a comprehensive fundraising program to generate philanthropic support for achievement of the NOVA Foundation’s short- and long-term goals and objectives. • Creates and implements an alumni strategy including development of an alumni database and annual giving plan to include all NOVA stakeholders – alumni, faculty and staff. • Identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards a portfolio of prospects with the ability to make major gifts including endowed and annual scholarships. • Tracks fundraising progress toward goal achievement and provides regular updates to executive leadership. • Records all contacts with prospects in the fundraising database. • Upholds the highest professional standards and ethics for fundraising and ensures compliance with all relevant federal, state and local regulations and guidelines. • Undertakes special projects and completes other duties as assigned. • Collaborates with executive leadership, marketing and workforce to develop and implement a comprehensive plan to promote sponsorship of appropriate events and programs. • Develops sponsorship opportunities that appropriately balance benefits with expected income, identify sponsorship prospects, solicit sponsorship’s, facilitate fulfillment of sponsor expectations, and ensure proper acknowledgment of commitments. • Advances the culture of philanthropy within NOVA through strategic collaboration and communication with volunteers and staff. • Develops and implements a comprehensive cultivation and engagement plan to educate and inform prospects and donors about NOVA’s short- and long-term goals and objectives. • Oversees design and preparation of all fundraising materials. • Ensures confidentiality of departmental information.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. - Several years of experience in and demonstrated success in fundraising and development - Experience working with a constituent database for prospect management required.
Knowledge of current fundraising practices, especially as they pertain to complex higher education settings. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Comfortable with donor database technology to track contacts with constituents. Well-honed verbal and written communication skills. Able to conduct face-to-face donor meetings and engage with prospects using grace, manners, and common sense.Ability to identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects. Must be able to maintain current relationships and be able to identify when contacts should be ushered into the prospect pipeline. Must be able to utilize emotional intelligence to read situations and act appropriately. Ability to articulate a persuasive case for support, develop appropriate cultivation strategies, and solicit donors in a timely fashion is essential.Strong commitment to ethics; self-motivated, nimble and able to adapt to changing environments.Proactive in evaluating and solving problems; effectively organizes work and projects to meet objectives and deadlines; encourages teamwork and cooperation; establishes effective working relationships with the System Office management and other staff members.Demonstrates desire to stay current on industry practices and maintain continued growth and improvement of requirements of the position; continuous emphasis on improving service and value.
