This is a full-time position based at GALA HQ in Seattle. You will be responsible for several functions related to events and marketing. You will report to the Executive Director and will work with other team members on different activities. The expected allocation is 50/50 events- and marketing-related tasks. Some travel, including international travel, will be required.
GALA’s event portfolio includes an annual conference for up to 500 delegates and more than a dozen GALA Loc Mixers (local networking events) around the world and throughout the year. We organize a few Executive Forums and Localization Forums and participate in GILT industry and allied-industry events as an exhibitor. Additionally, we engage in event cross-promotions with industry partners for mutual visibility and benefit.
Event Responsibilities Include:
Manage sponsor and exhibitor participation and logistics
Manage speaker participation and logistics
Coordinate printing of signage and collateral
Research and deploy event-specific technologies
Coordinate with graphic designer on event assets
Maintain annual conference website content
Coordinate event materials and collateral
Fulfill requirements of VAT reporting, when applicable
Coordinate event promotion and marketing
Coordinate visa invitation letters, when applicable
Assist with on-site event management
Marketing tasks will be a mix of promoting association membership, programs, and the GILT industry itself. You will use several channels including email-marketing, social media, the GALA website, and print materials and collateral. You will work with other GALA staff on specific campaigns and promotions related to membership, events, programs, and industry PR.
Marketing Responsibilities Include:
Basic graphic design (e.g. in Canva, Adobe Photoshop)
Coordinate media asset development with our graphic designer
Prepare email campaigns in MailChimp according to the communications calendar
Post events to GALA’s and other industry event calendars
Coordinate digital advertising on GALA’s website and others’
Enhance and manage SEO on GALA’s website according to best practices
Manage GALA’s social media presence on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn

GALA is a small-staff organization, and everybody wears many hats. While your primary responsibilities will be in events and marketing, you will need to be a strong team player, bring flexibility, and have a can-do attitude. Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential.
2 or more years’ experience in event coordination and production
1 or more years’ experience in professional marketing
Tech-savvy: Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, solid IT and PC knowledge
Excellent writing and communication skills
Proficiency with social media platforms and related technologies used to create attractive, effective posts
Strong knowledge/background of marketing principles and best practices
Basic knowledge of HTML
Basic understanding of SEO principles and ability to implement prescribed best practices
Non-profit or association experience a plus
Experience with Drupal CMS a plus
Experience with association management systems a plus
Foreign language study a plus
Self-starter with excellent follow-through
Detail-oriented, organized, and disciplined
Polished, professional demeanor; comfortable interacting with people across a diversity of countries, cultures, beliefs, etc.
